All the more so since the long-scheduled construction of 20 apartments for Jews in Jerusalem is given greater political attention than the accelerated construction of Islamist Iranian nuclear weapons with the avowed intention of erasing the Jewish state from the planet.
When presidential candidate Hussein Obama needed votes to secure what is arguably the most powerful position in global politics, he had no hesitation in visiting Jerusalem.
Today, however, secure in his position for the next couple of years at least, he has no need for Jewish – or indeed democratic – support and has gone out of his way to demonstrate his aversion to Israel, in particular the Jewish nation’s elected leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
Back then, when the Obama candidacy needed Jewish votes, candidate Obama talked about recognition of an undivided Jerusalem.
Today, president Obama talks about the absolute need for Jews to stop building homes in the Jewish capital in order to get intransigent Arabs and Islamists to pause long enough in their assault on the Jewish nation to sign an agreement in which they specify how long they wish to spend destroying Israel. By sheer coincidence, the time-span being kicked around is exactly the time needed by Obama’s latest buddy, Teheran’s Ahmadinejad, to conclude the development of his nuclear arsenal.
Back then, when Obama desperately needed every vote, he even travelled to Sderot, the town that has been battered by more than 10,000 Hamas missiles from Gaza, and said that whatever the final status of Jerusalem, "it s not the job of the United States to dictate the form that will take" but that it must be decided "by the parties themselves":
Today, of course, with US elections well out of the way, the US administration under Hussein Obama is doing just that, dictating precisely where Washington agrees for Jews to live in an area of the Holy Land that has never in history belonged to any other sovereign state. More specifically, what Obama is doing is to prevent any chance of Israelis and Palestinians from discussing the issue themselves, by dictating to the Israelis preconditions that even the Palestinians themselves are to shy to ask for.
Now into the breach steps Homer Simpson. The 2-D figure from Springfield so beloved from TV screens the world over has done what the 2-D figure from Washington has failed to do: Homer took his family and visited Israel AFTER the US elections, when there were no votes in the balance.
It was no cosy, sweet-as-cotton-candy picture that Homer tried to paint. On the contrary, his retinue included the in-your-face Jacob, voiced-over by Sacha Baron Cohen, whose highly controversial on-screen personas include Bruno and Borat.
But still Homer Simpson and his family did something that Obama and his family wouldn’t: visit, learn at first hand, have their pictures taken at Judaism’s holiest site when it is NOT election year.
Let me say what increasing numbers of Americans are saying:
Homer Simpson for President.
There’d certainly be more chance of peace than with the current incumbent.
The AIF consists of Libya and Syria, whose whose chain is yanked by Iran, while the Palestinian Arabs, for the first time since they started massacring Jews back in the 1920s, are finally able to relax and let their allies in Teheran and Washington take the strain.
Obama won a landmark victory at home with his health-care reforms. Desperate to prove that his domestic success was no flash-in-the-pan proof of mere domestic prowess but that he really is big enough for his overseas boots too, he has carefully tested the wind, abandoned his country’s support for democracy and realigned the United States with whoever can make him look powerful, purposeful, decisive. In short, whoever can make him look like a winner.
Which by definition means the Jews pay.
Read below under “Related Links” what Hussein Obama is doing to create and support a new intransigent Arab Middle East, how he is planning to shelve Israel and how disrespectfully he is treating America’s foremost ally. Britain routinely executes alleged militants abroad in extrajudicial killings and even fights wars in areas as far apart as Iraq, Argentina and Afghanistan while continuing to occupy Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands. Nevertheless, Britain has taken its cue from its master, the Obama-led regime in Washington and in an unprecedented show of animosity has expelled an Israeli diplomat on account of unfounded allegations of Israeli complicity in the murder of a wanted terrorist in Dubai.
Britain’s extraordinarily duplicitous stance on the issue of targeted killings and the USA’s extraordinarily aggressive actions against its sole ally in the Middle East, Israel, are going to have far-reaching and long-lasting repercussions.
Israel may have been selected as the whipping-boy in Obama’s frenzied ego-trip, but it is a fact well known that when one has one’s back to the wall, the only alternative to voluntarily giving up one’s life is to come out fighting.
History has taught us that when pressed, Israel will come out fighting savagely.
The question is which regimes will be in power in Washington, Teheran, Damascus and Ramallah to pick up the pieces. Because just as Obama’s and Brown’s self-assigned policing activities in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and Yemen result in alarming civilian casualties well beyond US and UK borders, so too do Israel’s US- and UK-enforced policing activities on its own doorstep look likely to result in large-scale casualties well beyond Israel’s borders.
Obama may want to look beyond his own reflection just long enough to consider what he is unleashing on countless people throughout the Middle East.
He’s certainly going to go down in history as a president to remember.
The question is, will he be remembered as a bumbling idiot or a man smart enough to realize his own limitations and take the advice of his betters.

Barack Hussein Obama may nominally be the president of the United States of America, but he is increasingly behaving like the representative of some particularly hard-line Islamist regime in the Middle East.
It may explain why he signally fails to impose a single demand on the Palestinian Arabs. There is total consensus between the hard-line Hamas regime of Gaza and the ostensibly “moderate” Palestinian Authority of the West Bank – the two Jewish provinces of Judea and Samaria that the Palestinians want to create a second Palestinian nation alongside the Palestinian nation of Jordan. Both the PA and Hamas want all of Israel, all of Jerusalem, and none of the Jews who live in the region.
Obama flatly refuses to impose a single demand on these two organizations, which in all other respects are otherwise sworn enemies of each other.
What Obama does do is to openly condemn Israel for wanting to build homes for Jews in the Jewish capital on land that has never belonged to any sovereign nation other than Israel. His latest condemnation of the Jewish state is officially linked to Israel’s long-known project for the construction of 1600 apartments in Jerusalem. However, increasing numbers of analysts note that what Hussein Obama is doing is actually to alter the political make-up of the sovereign state of Israel by forcing Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu out of power, to be replaced by someone more favourable to Obama’s visions for the Middle East.
Interestingly in the context of apartment building in capital cities, Swedish politicians during this election year are proudly claiming responsibility for wanting to build 15,000 new apartments in and around Stockholm (link in Swedish). Obama has no comment. Of course, Sweden is not a Jewish country so it is not worthy of his interest.
After noting Hussein Obama’s steady ramping up of attacks on the Jewish state, his insults to the Jewish premier on the latter’s recent visit to Washington and the US president’s utter failure to make any demands on the intransigent Muslim regimes that aim to replace Israel with the world’s 25th Arab and 56th Muslim state, the hardliners in Gaza have accordingly stepped up their own attacks on the Jewish state.
Last week it was a civilian farm worker in southern Israel who was killed in a Hamas rocket assault on the farm where he worked. Today four Palestinian Arabs and two Israeli soldiers were killed when the Arabs attempted to invade Israel and kidnap more Jews to join Gilad Schalit, the only Jew alive in an otherwise entirely ethnically cleansed Gaza Strip. Gilad Schalit is being used in a macabre human trafficking scam to extract the release of convicted mass-murderers and terrorists.
Hussein Obama has no comments regarding the ethnically cleansed, Jew-free nature of the Gaza Strip. That may be because he is too busy planning his next proxy attack on the Jewish state. He certainly isn’t dealing with the Jewish state’s biggest existential threat in its entire history – a nuclear-armed Islamist Iran. Even though the Iranian threat is also a threat to the US and Europe. Hussein Obama, known for his years of upbringing as a strict Muslim and later for his friendship with a Christian pastor of particularly un-Christian attitudes towards Jews, shows an embarrassing animosity towards Jews and a transparently burning desire to penalise the Jewish state, whatever the risk to his own country or his allies.
The administration of Hussein Obama, president of the USA, is characterized by strange silences interspersed with voluble outbursts that delight the USA’s enemies and alienate its friends. And still there are a few analysts who maintain that he is actually serving US interests.
It’s almost as though the Obama administration had settled down for business in the wrong capital.

Take a look at the state of play from the vantage points as far apart as Scandinavia, the USA, and inside the Middle East itself. A Finnish blogger, KGS of Tundra Tabloids, brings this story of how Church organizations in Finland and Sweden routinely engage in spine-chillingly anti-Semitic trips that are funded partly by the Church and partly by the State. It is a synthesis of religion and state apparatus pursuing an overtly anti-Israel agenda that gives considerable pause for thought.
In the USA, New York Post columnist Ralph Peters writes about how the US under Barack Hussein Obama is openly undermining the Jewish state in favour of radical Islamist regimes spanning the entire Middle East. Obama’s chronic inability to recognise Israeli anxieties is matched only by his overwhelming desire to anticipate whatever the Arab states want – and to pressure the Jewish state into feeding Arab rejectionist intransigence. Obama’s approach marks a social disparity with a worrying religious echo and unpleasant racist undertones.
On the subject of racism, in Egypt, an Israeli reporter was arrested by the military as he tried to cross the border into Israel together with Muslim African refugees who often make the hazardous journey across several Muslim countries to seek asylum in the world’s only Jewish nation. The reporter, Yotam Feldman, wanted to record the plight of the African asylum-seekers from their on-the-spot perspective. He recounts that he was treated reasonably well by the Egyptian authorities but testified to the far worse fate of the black Africans who he says are routinely mistreated in the Muslim state of Egypt, noting that the Egyptians make a distinction in their treatment of white people and their treatment of Africans.
It is remarkable that in a world characterised by economic tailspin, major environmental concerns, massive social inequalities, substantial political corruption and other crises of enormous weight, there is such corrosive preoccupation with the Jewish state in countries as far apart as the US and Finland, at the same time as these very same countries turn a blind eye to the vicious injustices perpetrated by Muslims on other Muslims, as testified by a journalist in Egypt.
How does one explain this imbalance without using the words “anti” and “Semitism”?
But it’s not all gloom, doom and anti-Semitism. For light comic relief, there’s always that stalwart of manic humour, the United Nations. As Barry Rubin reports with regard to the UN-Habitat organisation, “granting an award to the close friend of those who murdered the man it's named after, a backer of those who he fought against, and who is aiding those seeking to take over his country definitely qualifies for being granted our own award for ironic and disgraceful behavior”.
You may not have heard about this. No international protests. No public demonstrations about the unsuitability of naming the site after a terrorist and mass-murderer of civilians. No debates in the UN Security Council. No hasty meetings convened between the US and EU to discuss the aggressive tone of this deliberate insult, no inter-governmental agreements on how best to punish the decision-makers behind this tasteless, counterproductive measure. No UN comment on how this unnecessarily subverts attempts to bridge cultural, political and religious divides.
The reason for the silence?
Perhaps it’s because the US prizes consistency. After all, the US signally refused to comment on – let alone condemn – the Palestinian Authority for naming the public square outside Ramallah town hall in honour of terrorist and mass-murderer Dalal Mughrabi, who a number of years ago killed 38 Jewish civilians in Israel, including 13 children. The dedication of the town square was scheduled to coincide with US Vice-President Joe Biden’s visit to the region.
Before we go any further, let me clarify that there are no plans to rename the Twin Towers site. It was merely a ruse to make a point. But that point, however, is still frighteníngly valid. Why the US silence on dedicating a town square to a terrorist and mass-murderer? The US is, after all, bankrolling the Palestinian Authority and even arming and training its fighters. Does the US administration really feel so comfortable with this decision by its protégé?
Not only was it not Joe Biden’s policy to comment on the decision, he did not actually have time to comment on it – he was too busy “condemning” Israel for wanting to build apartments for Jews in a part of Jerusalem that even the Palestinian Arabs recognize will always remain part of Israel, whatever the shape and details of a possible future final-status peace agreement.
Interestingly, neither Joe Biden nor Barack Hussein Obama nor Hillary Clinton has ever spoken out against the unsuitability of China building apartments for ethnic Chinese in Tibet, after first transferring one million Tibetans out of their ancestral home and carting them off to China, with one million ethnic Chinese taking their place in Tibet.
So perhaps it has nothing to do with consistency, after all.
Perhaps it’s simply a question of Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton - as well as Israel's Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu - being held to ransom by a pathetically immature US president.
A president who is tough on his nation’s colleagues and allies, but soft on his nation’s enemies. A president who sets greater store by personal prestige than by strategic sensibilities. A president who has keener affiliations with the Muslim world than with the Western world.
Incomprehensively, Obama keeps trying to force Israel to pay the price for Palestinian Arab intransigence. "Intransigence"? Yup. This week the Palestinian Arabs - both the extremist Islamist Hamas and the extremist secular PA - joined forces to launch a violent yet comically named "Day of Rage" (read also here) to protest Israel's rebuilding of the Hurva Synagogue in Jerusalem. This is the synagogue that the Palestinian Arabs destroyed in 1948. Absorb it: the Palestinian Arabs are protesting the rebuilding of a Jewish religious site that they destroyed, and claim that by doing so they are protecting the freedom of their own religious sites. So much for adherents of what is constantly being touted as the "religion of peace". Read here an unguardedly honest view of one Muslim cleric on the implications of his own religion. (Hat tip to blogger Loganswarning).
No comment from Obama, Biden or Clinton on this either. They seem to have an innate inability to comment on any negative steps taken by Muslim regimes or on any expressions of Muslim extremism as stemming from ... well ... Islam.
Of course, perhaps the US administration is simply far too busy cowering in the face of the increasingly strident position being taken by Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria and Turkey.
It seems the world is gradually accepting the need to identify problems accurately instead of baptising them with politically correct euphemisms.
The Swiss decided in a referendum to ban the construction of minarets on mosques. Many – but far from all – mosques are increasingly regarded as fertile breeding-grounds for Islamist fanatics peddling a sinister brand of anti-democratic venom.
The Egyptians have tightened control over their sovereign territory by banning foreign troublemakers such as renegade British MP George Galloway and his ilk. The rioters and their organisations have been labelled as seditious forces aiding and abetting a recognized terrorist entity, Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Britain has outlawed a number of Islamist groups headed by British Muslims. To the mindset of the traditional British left-wing liberal movement, this is an astonishing step. Essential, but astonishing – and it shows just how firmly the realization has finally dawned on the powers that be in the UK.
In the USA, the ADL has come out swinging at CAIR for the Muslim organisation’s anti-American, anti-democratic stance. This is something that veteran Middle East analyst and commentator Daniel Pipes has been doing for some time now. So much so that US President Barack Hussein Obama is himself edging towards identifying the nature of the problem facing his country: terrorism practised by Muslims in the name of Islam. He is increasingly turning to American Muslims to clean up their own act – the spectre hanging over the US is the prospect of outlawing American Muslim organisations, which is precisely what Britain has now done.
Is the West involved in an existential struggle against an aggressive Islam? The answer is that unless peaceful adherents of Islam take back their religion from the hate-mongers and violent jihadis, they are likely to be drawn into an all-encompassing battle, whether they like it or not. And if and when that happens, it will be too late to protest their innocence.
It is up to the Muslims in the West to assert themselves and seize control of their faith and their reputation. Today. Otherwise, watch for increasingly stringent impositions on various Muslim groups and increasingly widespread general anti-Muslim sentiment.
Richard Goldstone, in his whitewash of Hamas culpability and his publicly funded targeting of Israel’s self-defense measures, noted that there was “no evidence” that Hamas waged war against Israel from civilian areas and with its fighters dressed in civilian clothing.
Bloggers Elder of Ziyon and Solomonia beg to differ. And they have the video and other evidence to back their claims of Hamas abuse of the Geneva Conventions.
Read Augean Stables for a highly lucid comment on the subject and further video evidence of Hamas tactics.
Of course, Hamas does not only use adult civilians in its propaganda war. Here is a video clip from MEMRI that shows what passes for children’s entertainment on Hamas TV. Raw indoctrination of vulnerable minors, racism of the most brutal sort. It needs to be remembered that the Palestinian Arabs – in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip – rely exclusively on the West for their financial well-being. Agriculture, industry and trade have zero priority, it is the West that funds the Palestinian Arab war and propaganda budget.
For a further analysis of just what Hamas is up to, to understand the racist Islamist mindset that drives this and countless similar organisations, and to understand how close the West is to committing collective suicide in the face of the Islamist onslaught, read another piece from Augean Stables.
And there’s more. Bret Stephens, renowned from his senior writing and editorial positions at highly reputable publications such as the Wall Street Journal and the Jerusalem Post, raises the question of whether the West is competent to safeguard its own civilization in a climate in which Political Correctness has replaced organized religion as the key aspiration for politicians keener to preserve their jobs in the short term than they are to protect their citizens in the long term.
While continuing to routinely ignore human rights abuses in the Arab and Muslim worlds, the West continues to do what is most convenient – kowtow to the threats issuing from the Arab and Muslim worlds and focus instead on delegitimisation and demonisation of the sole democracy in the Middle East. Israel. As many keen observers and analysts have pointed out, it's remarkably like dropping your car keys by mistake and then searching for them under the street light because that's where it's bright and most convenient to search, rather than in the pools of inky darkness in between - where you actually dropped them.
Turning a blind eye to Islamist aggression has become such second nature in the West that few question where we are headed. Fewer still recognize that this is a problem. One of the exceptions to the rule showed itself in Der Spiegel where an editorial by Henryk M Broder pointed out with the utmost clarity that the West is indeed choked by fear. Spiegel also has another highly interesting article entitled “Fears of Eurabia: How Much Allah Can The Old Continent Bear?” Well worth a read for its cool, objective analysis.
The question that begs an answer, of course, is whether the politicians will ever wake up to the occasional clarion calls being sounded by the media. Or whether they will continue to insist that we do not have a problem with any given religion, just with certain nationalities.
In the wake of the attempted terror attack on the civilian airliner in Detroit last Christmas, President Barack Hussein Obama has announced restrictive travel measures for 14 nations.
All are Muslim nations.
But he continues to deny that the US faces a Muslim or Islamist threat.
Either his eyesight is failing, or his intelligence is. And I mean his intelligence, not his intelligence agencies.
They’re never given the chance to do their job. Political Correctness has higher priority than national well-being.
Of course, Obama isn't the only politican suffering from SES - Selective Eyesigt Syndrome. Has-been US President Jimmy Carter has made a name for himself - particularly in the Arab world - for his constant baracking of the world's sole Jewish state. Now he has apologised for hurting the feelings of Israelis and Jews worldwide, apparently in the belief that his scant apology buys him sufficient breathing-space to continue his attacks on the Jewish state. While at the same time continuing to ignore the legion human rights abuses throughout the Arab and Muslim worlds. Read what CAMERA writes in its response to Jimmy Carter.
Bloggarna Elder of Ziyon samt Solomonia vet annorlunda.
With a powerful missile fired from a civilian residential area in Gaza into a civilian residential area in Netivot, Israel.
Palestinian Arab President Mahmoud Abbas is the head of the Fatah political party. The rocket was fired from Hamas-controlled territory by the Al-Aqsa Brigade, a UN- and US-subsidized and trained Fatah military unit.
Here’s something none of the high-salaried EU and US potentates ever seem to consider: linking Gaza’s well-being to the freedom of kidnapped and illegally incarcerated Israeli Gilad Shalit. Shalit has now been in captivity for three and a half years for the crime of being Jewish in Israel, the world’s only Jewish state. He was kidnapped as a teenager from within sovereign Israel and has been held by the Palestinians’ Gaza prime minister Ismail Haniyeh without access to a lawyer (not that he’s accused of anything), the International Red Cross (not that they’ve demanded Hamas honour the IRC’s internationally recognized right to see him), his family, his doctor, visits by Human Rights Watch (not that they’ve ever asked to visit him), the UN (which via UNRWA co-funds the entire Gaza regime of Ismail Haniyeh), the EU (which is the main donor bloc to UNRWA), or Sweden (which is the largest per capita donor to Palestinian Arab welfare in Gaza and as such pays to keep the regime in power. Read here and here and here about the professional anti-Zionist and often anti-Semitic campaign being waged with public funding in Sweden.). And visit aish.com to view Gilad Shalit’s father Noam’s appeal last spring on behalf of his son. Noam Shalit advocated and still advocates linking the massive aid to the Gaza regime to his son Gilad’s release from illegal captivity.
But the above publicly funded official organizations – they are funded by hard-working citizens’ tax revenues – are not interested in linking money to life. They want to keep funding the regime that engages in the ghoulish practice of human trafficking, while urging the Jewish State to release 1000 convicted Palestinian Arab mass-murderers in exchange for the life of Gilad Schalit.
That was the note on which 2009 ended. There is every indication that 2010 will bring more of the same, only worse. However, there are some signs, albeit tentative, that 2010 might actually bring some improvement.
Watch this slide show to find out more about the refugee problem that is never talked about – the 850,000 Jewish refugees escaping persecution in Arab lands.
The whole picture. Something that highly paid – and publicly funded – EU and US politicians might want to start considering. Assisted by the media. What a brave new world we might see then, one where the media actually start asking uncomfortable questions – which by definition means probing questions of the Arab and Muslim worlds.
Worlds which in the best traditions of Political Correctness have been exempt from any questioning at all.
In early November 2009, an Israeli Jew, Ya’acov Teitel, was arrested by Israeli police on suspicion of terrorism. His alleged victims were Arabs, and his motivation was political: violence as a strategy for political gain.
Here’s what the mainstream English-language Israeli press had to say:
“The Shin Bet revealed that it arrested Shvut Rachel resident Yaakov Teitel last month for allegedly killing two Palestinians.”
The paper goes on to say:
“Following the arrest of a West Bank settler suspected of multiple murders and bomb attacks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel must fight the terror posed by violent extreme rightists, whom he termed a ‘marginal minority’.”
PM Netanyahu continued:
“There is still among us a minority that is not prepared to accept democracy and are not prepared to accept the rule of law.” He then went on: “They do not represent the majority of the nation. They are a small and marginal group, but we have already seen the strength and damage of one murderer. We must continue to condemn the use of violence and to use all legal power against any attempt at violence.”
Israel’s Science and Technology Minister Daniel Hershkowitz said that he “categorically condemned the actions of the Jewish terrorist. It is the insane behavior of a lone man, one that is foreign to the ways of Judaism.”
No doubt then about the response of the Israeli media and the political establishment. A terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist.
Now fast forward a few weeks. Israeli Jewish father of seven Meir Chai was gunned down by Arabs following the removal of multiple security roadblocks at the insistence of Barack Hussein Obama, who is comfortably ensconced in the safety of the White House a few thousand miles away.
“After months of quiet, a father of seven was shot dead in a drive-by shooting attack near the northern Samaria settlement of Shavei Shomron on Thursday. The victim was identified as Meir Chai, a 45-year-old resident of the settlement and father of seven children ranging in age from two months to 18. Chai was the fourth terror victim in the West Bank in 2009. In March, two policemen were shot dead in the Jordan Valley and in April, 13-year-old Shlomo Nativ was stabbed to death near his home in the Gush Etzion settlement of Bat Ayin.”
“Samaria Regional Council Head Gershon Mesika said following the terrorist murder of Rabbi Meir Chai from Samaria Thursday: “After a long period of security quiet, the main roadblock between Shavei Shomron and Tulkarm was recently opened, despite our warnings. The government of Israel preferred 'the Palestinian fabric of life' to its citizens' rights. “An unnamed IDF officer told Haaretz that the terrorists who murdered Rabbi Chai most likely escaped through the abandoned checkpoint, which was removed shortly before the murder. “The IDF's removal of roadblocks is widely perceived as a gesture toward US President Barack Obama, who has pressured Israel to make Arabs' "fabric of life" as comfortable as possible.”
Here is the response of the Palestinian media:
This is the response of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas:
And here is the response of the Palestinian Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad:
Israeli cartoonist Yaakov Kirschen sums it up neatly:

The only time Palestinian Arab media and politicians ever comment on Palestinian Arab terrorism is to commemorate their “heroic feats”.
Way to go, Barack Hussein Obama. Got any more experiments up your sleeve?
US Nobel Peace Prize laureate Barack Hussein Obama – who was nominated for the prize within mere days of taking up office – arrived in Oslo, accepted the award and promptly left.
Obama said that “the instruments of war do have a role to play in preserving the peace”. That’s when the US itself is involved. However, it appears not to be a consideration he extends to America’s staunchest ally, Israel.
President Obama, whose very entitlement to the US presidency has been called into question owing to uncertainty over his country of birth, has come in for fierce criticism for accepting the Peace Prize when he has not actually contributed to peace.
Swedish journalist and commentator Per Gudmundson said on Swedish TV that President Obama makes as fitting a Peace Prize laureate as Yasser Arafat did – both have done equally little to advance the cause of peace, albeit in entirely different spheres. Arafat through decades of terrorist attacks on civilian Jews in Israel and around the world, Obama though ongoing and heightened military commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan respectively.
Here’s the speech Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Barack Hussein Obama should have made in Oslo:
Dear friends of peace,
I am humbled by your gesture and vow to act in the spirit in which this signal honour was bestowed on me. If there is one lesson recent history has taught us, it is that of Northern Ireland. Decades of violence ended when funding for weapons and training dried up. As a result of international determination to strangle the supply of armaments to hate-mongers and violent terror groups, guns have been replaced by conference tables and very real progress has been made towards genuine, lasting peace. Friendship requires trust, and trust is based on mutual recognition of the other’s concerns and rights.
It is this same approach that I will apply now that I am in receipt of this, the greatest honour I have ever received. I have admittedly done nothing whatsoever to deserve it, yet, but I promise to live up to your expectations and to deliver on those expectations.
Here’s how I will do it: in Afghanistan and Iraq I will use military means to fight the hate-mongers and violent terror groups to a standstill. I will use the money from my Award to set up foundations for education so that future generations in these two war-torn countries see a different reality, a better future. I will above all else do absolutely everything it takes to proactively battle the supply of arms to these two fractured societies.
It is this very same approach I will adopt in that other Middle East hot-spot, the one that for so many decades has pitched the 50-odd Arab and Muslim states against the world’s sole Jewish nation, Israel. To paraphrase a former US President, read my lips: there will be an absolute stop to the supply of weapons to hate-mongers and violent terror groups. When the ability to perpetrate violence has been removed from the equation, the relevant sides will sit down and negotiate a solution. A solution that is a compromise. Because only a mutually agreed compromise will once and for all put an end to this conflict. A conflict that the community of nations has deliberately maintained as a running sore over a number of decades for reasons of political expediency.
Political expediency is at an end. From today the focus is on the human being. Whether Christian in Bethlehem, Muslim in Ramallah, Baha’i in Haifa or Jew in Jerusalem – the Nobel Peace Prize is going to sow the seeds for an approach that brings equal dignity to human beings across this conflict-ridden region.
Human dignity. For everyone. That means an end to Palestinian Arabs living in squalid refugee camps. It means full citizenship, and compensation, for all displaced peoples, both Arab Muslims and Arab Christians, as well as Jews from Arab lands. It means an absolute – and resolutely enforced – ban on arms shipments to all groups engaged in violence, as well as the financing of such groups by any means whatsoever. It means an unequivocal refusal to countenance a nuclear-armed Iran. That will not happen, for the simple reason that the Iranian regime has clearly announced it intends to erase a fellow member of the UN family, Israel, off the map. The UN is not Mafia family which countenances the rubbing out of other family members. It is supposed to be a family of tolerant nations that enshrine mutual respect. If this kind of family is not to your taste, you’re welcome to leave.
And it means, finally, the immediate and absolute ban on all further state-sponsored interference in the affairs of other sovereign nations. This means – and I spell it out very clearly – the total and absolute cessation of government funding of subversion within Israel. The Israelis and their Arab neighbours, including the Palestinians, need to have sufficient peace of mind to work out their differences without outside interference. I am absolutely convinced that without the interference and active subversion of nations such as Sweden via a plethora of “NGOs” – activities that only serve to preserve and extend the atmosphere of mutual distrust and conflict – the Israelis and their Arab neighbours will come to an agreement that meets the widest possible consensus. Not everybody will be satisfied, but the majority will – on all sides.
However, that requires an end to subversion through the use of state-funded organisations that really serve as the extended arm of various nations’ covert foreign policy aims.
That has got to stop. No more covert interference from outside.
While I am here in Oslo, allow me therefore to spell it out clearly for your Swedish neighbours: no more use of Swedish tax revenues to fund disparate organisations such as SIDA, Diakonia, Palestinagruppen, Palmecentret, the Swedish Church and their obsessive meddling in the Middle East. Swedish foreign policy should be conducted openly and transparently through its Foreign Minister. Sweden’s Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has used his time and energy and his nation’s considerable resources to try and persuade the entire EU to push through the division of Jerusalem. Some observers may find it remarkable that the EU would actively support partition in one city while celebrating the 20th anniversary of reunification in another city, Berlin.
However, while the drive to partition Jerusalem may be cheered in certain quarters and abhorred in others, it is nonetheless the openly declared policy of Sweden, through its Foreign Ministry, and as such perfectly legitimate. It is a policy that can be contested in many forums, and doubtless will. What is not legitimate, however, is for the Swedish Foreign Ministry to extend its reach under the table by employing a web of subversive organisations, providing massive government funding for the execution of an invisible policy. To give one single example, Sweden’s extremist Palestinagruppen, with membership totalling just 800 or so members, gets government grants totalling in the region of 5.5 million US dollars, which it uses to fund anti-Israel operations both in Sweden and in Israel. Sweden is of course far from the only country engaged in this subversion. Many European and other countries pursue an active strategy of parallel yet invisible foreign policy via various NGOs.
This will stop.
Today I received the Nobel Peace Prize, for which I offer my heartfelt thanks. It is an award that brings with it serious obligations. I intend to live up to the obligations that came with this award – I will promote peace. Robustly.
Because sometimes, promoting peace requires going to war.
If you are engaged in subverting peace, I put you on notice.
I am Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Barack Hussein Obama, and I am prepared to go to war to ensure peace. Because the instruments of war have a very real role to play in preserving the peace.
I will go to war to preserve peace because I hold human dignity dear.
