Tyst, men fortsatt generös.

The EU goes to school and learns nothing

Catherine Ashton is high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and vice president of the European Commission.

At considerable public expense (she and her extensive retinue are funded by European taxpayers), she recently traveled to the Gaza Strip on what she termed was a mission “to see whether European assistance money has an effect on the ground”. Her conclusion? “It does.”

Returning from the Islamist-controlled Gaza Strip – the Hamas terrorist organisation seized control of the territory in an illegal and particularly brutal coup – she jotted down her impressions in an article in the New York Times entitled “Lessons from a Gaza Trip”.

It has to be said straight off: if this is how Catherine Ashton learns lessons, it’s a wonder she ever graduated from junior school.

She went to the Gaza Strip and learned nothing. Least of all the fundamental concept of “cause and effect”. She recorded that upon leaving the modern and vibrant Jewish nation of Israel and entering Gaza you emerge “like a time-traveler transported backwards, on a dirt track. This is where the industrial center of Gaza used to be. Now, people with donkeys and carts carry stones from the rubble”. She failed to learn, let alone explain, that the reason why the industrial center of Gaza (which used to give employment to hundreds of Gaza residents) is a pile of rubble is because the Hamas rulers consistently bombarded it in order to force its closure – and then employ gullible useful idiots like Ashton to claim that there are no jobs for Gazans because of Israel.

Among the more remarkable claims this paragon of Euro-intelligence and foreign policy blundering makes is that European financial assistance has a positive effect on the ground. She is right, in a way. Because whatever financial assistance is provided on the ground frees up corresponding funding below ground for the tunnels that are used for the purchase, import, engineering and firing of missiles at Israeli civilians – most recently with one fatality last week. It is a remarkably simple lesson in elementary mathematics and logic that Lady Catherine Ashton appears not to have learned.

To find out more about how continued EU and other foreign meddling funding extends the conflict, read the following report by NGO Monitor.

Even more remarkably, Ashton traveled to the Gaza Strip and failed to undertake the most basic and most effective steps to assure Israel that she is truly non-partisan. All she had to do was state that her planned visit would go ahead subject to the immediate and unconditional release of Gilad Schalit, the only Jew alive in an otherwise Jew-free, ethnically cleansed Gaza Strip. Schalit was kidnapped from Israel while in his teens and has been illegally held by Gaza’s Hamas rulers ever since, almost four years now. In contravention of a whole raft of international agreements, not least the Geneva Conventions, he has not been granted visitation rights by his parents, legal representation (not that he is accused of anything other than being a Jew), he has been denied visits by the Red Cross (although to be fair the Red Cross have never demanded to visit him) and as Hamas proudly boasts the young man has not seen daylight for his entire 4-year captivity.

All Ashton had to do to convince Israel of her impartiality was to demand Schalit’s release as a precondition for her high-profile visit and the continued pumping in of massive foreign aid.

But such a step was unthinkable to Lady Catherine Ashton and her EU backers.

All she could do was to feed continued Arab and Islamist intransigence with statements such as “A way must be found to resolve the status of Jerusalem as the future capital of both Israel and Palestine.” Really? Why is this so important, yet the release of Gilad Schalit is not? And why is this so important but there is no urgent need to find a way to resolve the status of Hebron as a city that is as important to many Israelis as Jerusalem itself is? Hebron used to be the political capital of the Jewish nation and to this day is of vital significance as a religious centre. Neither Jerusalem nor Hebron has ever been of the slightest importance to any Arab or Muslim community, except insofar as they are important to the Jews which automatically means they are claimed by the entire Arab and Muslim world with the subservient assistance of dhimmi (servile) European and US administrations. Visit the ME Forum and read this article to find out what dhimmitude has in store for the West.

Lessons from a Gaza Trip”? The EU’s foreign-policy and security head really needs lessons in how to do her homework. She has learned nothing.

One man. Two visits. Two very different voices.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon has just been to the Gaza Strip.

He visited a Gaza City neighborhood that was damaged during IDF Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli response to 8 years of Arab attacks in which more than 10,000 missiles were fired from Gaza on Israeli civilian communities. Ban Ki-moon assured the Arab aggressors on behalf of the UN: "we stand with you."

He referred to Israel's decision to permit the entry of limited quantities of building supplies as "a drop in a bucket of water" and vowed that he would demand that the Israeli authorities do more. "This is a positive, welcome step and I believe that we need far more ... I have repeatedly made it clear to Israeli leaders that their policy of closures is not sustainable and is wrong ... It causes unacceptable suffering," Ban said.

The world has condemned Israel’s settlement plans in east Jerusalem,” Ban went on to say at a news conference, continuing: “Let us be clear. All settlement activity is illegal anywhere in occupied territory and must be stopped.”

Following his visit to Gaza and his profuse comments on behalf of the Palestinian Arabs of Gaza and of Judea and Samaria (also known as the West Bank), Ban Ki-moon met with the parents of Gilad Schalit, a Jew who was kidnapped from Israel while still a teenager and has been held ever since – coming up to 4 years now – without prospects of freedom and without access to his parents, legal representation (not that he is accused of anything other than being a Jew), visits by the Red Cross (not that they have ever demanded to visit him) or such basic human rights as access to daylight.

"Gilad is being held by Hamas with disregard for basic human rights - a situation which is intolerable and unacceptable to any person in the free world," Ban Ki-moon told Gilad’s parents.

That’s it. Nothing else. No question of “demands” being made on his Hamas captors. No question of how pressure is to be ramped up against Hamas in the UN.

Here is a video that shows how Schalit's Hamas captors - the government of Gaza - mock his parents and trample both Gilad's and his parents' basic human rights, parading an actor portraying their captive and threatening dire consequences if their human trafficking demands are not met:

The UN chief was keen to “condemn” Israel for building apartments in an area of Jerusalem that has never belonged to any sovereign nation other than Israel, but chose not to condemn Hamas for Gilad Schalit’s continued incarceration.

The UN chief branded Israel’s plans to build apartments as “illegal” – a word he carefully avoided using with regard to Gilad Schalit’s continued incarceration.

Israel may have allowed the entry of some construction materials into Gaza and Ban Ki-moon may regard this as “a drop in a bucket of water” – but Israel is still waiting for him to demand a corresponding symbolic “drop in a bucket of water” from the Hamas regime with regard to such niceties as the release of Schalit, the cessation of rocket fire (27 rockets so far this year, one civilian fatality in Israel last week while the UN chieftain was actually in Gaza), the cessation of anti-Semitic indoctrination on Hamas TV and in schools.

Ban Ki-moon anguished over the “wrong” and “unacceptable suffering” of the Palestinian Arabs subjected to road blocks and border closures, but did not mention the need for Israeli civilians to spend their entire lives within walking distance of bomb shelters for fear of repeated and continuing missile attacks from Gaza, nor did he talk about the “unacceptable suffering” of Schalit’s parents for the crime of being Jewish.

Israel is still waiting for Ban Mi-moon to publicly state “we stand with you” in the face of continued Palestinian Arab rocket attacks, racist incitement, rioting in public places, physical attacks on civilians and military personnel. In fact, Israel still waits for any sign from the UN chieftain that he stands with Israel on any score whatsoever or that he understands any aspect of the Jewish state’s predicament.

Ban Ki-moon stands firmly with the Palestinian Arabs, whatever they do.

And Ban Ki-moon stands very much apart from Israeli victims of continued Palestinian Arab aggression.

Ban Ki-moon does indeed represent the “United Nations” – nations united in their animosity towards the Jewish state of Israel.

The drip effect

The tactic is well-known. The constant drip designed to gradually erode all resistance.

It’s the tactic that the world’s collective of anti-Semites and assorted other racists are employing against the Jewish state.

The most recent outbreak of this epidemic is IAW, Israel Apartheid Week, whose purpose is to “educate people about the nature of Israel as an apartheid system”. Bafflingly, the organisation then retracts, saying that Israel “is obviously not the exact same thing as Apartheid South Africa” but goes on to maintain that as long as the offensive likeness can be used as a bludgeon against the Jewish state, it will be put to good use.

Visit the CAMERA website to find out how the IAW's Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) strategy is a publicly funded weapon designed specifially to prevent any prospects for peace in the Middle East.

NGO Monitor underlines the fact that organisations such as IAW and Sweden’s Alternative Information Center are actually government-funded. Individual European states and the EU as a bloc provide most of the funding for these subversive activities against a UN member state, the aim of which is to delegitimise that state.

IAW demands an end to “colonization of all Arab lands” and “full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel,” while also demanding the removal of the security fence that Israel has built where it provides most security against Palestinian Arab terrorism – which occasionally means those Jewish provinces that Palestinian Arabs want for a future state but without the niceties of having to negotiate over their acquisition. IAW also demands what it terms the “right of return for Palestinian refugees”. Inexplicably, not a return to the Arab state of Palestine, but to the Jewish state of Israel.

IAW, like legion other anti-Israel organisations, never works to better the lot of Palestinian Arabs – it does not help set up trade missions to boost Palestinian Arab commerce, industry, banking or agriculture. It does not support joint ventures to increase Palestinian Arab trade abroad. It does not work to place Palestinian Arab products on supermarket shelves. Instead, IAW, like others of its ilk, has just one item on its agenda: the deconstruction of Israel and its replacement with an Islamist state.

For a brief yet exhaustive examination of what IAW and its cohorts stand for and what they really could do, read Christopher Aqurette’s article entitled “Racists celebrate annual Israel-bashing week”.

Of course, IAW does not operate in a vacuum. It is aided and abetted by politically driven media and by some rather besotted politicians.

Sweden’s Foreign Minister Carl Bildt writes in his blog (in Swedish) about his concern over Israeli military overflights in Lebanese skies – but ignores the reason for these monitoring flights: that Iranian terrorist proxy Hizbollah, in flagrant breach of a binding UN Security Council resolution, continues to rearm in southern Lebanon along the border with Israel. Carl Bildt writes his blog from his vantage point aboard a UN helicopter flying along the Lebanon-Israel border where he can clearly see the massive Hizbollah infrastructure swiftly spreading ever further south towards Israel. Perhaps his helicopter had blacked-out windows.

Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson is currently participating in an overtly anti-Israel event called the Gaza Accountability Conference in which she demands that “the Gaza crossings must be opened unconditionally and immediately” and that “Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem must be united”. She has not said anything about what the Palestinian Arabs have to do to earn this, such as a stop to terror or racist indoctrination. Neither has the Swedish government minister said anything about Hamas releasing the one Jew still (hopefully) alive in a Gaza Strip that has otherwise been ethnically cleansed of all Jews, both dead and alive. Gilad Schalit was kidnapped as a teenager from inside Israel more than three years ago and has since been held in Gaza without access to legal representation (not that he is accused of anything), without visits by the Red Cross (not that they have demanded visitation rights), and without access to his family. Swedish government minister Gunilla Carlsson’s silence on this issue while voicing demands that benefit Palestinian Arab terrorists is a cause for grave concern.

Large swathes of the major media here seem to be equally blind. The UN’s own Middle East envoy Robert Serry says clearly that there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In other words, the hysterical allegations of Gaza’s humanitarian crisis are merely media manipulation, politically motivated activism in favour of a preordained strategic agenda. His position and title notwithstanding, Robert Serry is being largely disregarded the world over since his message does not fit in with the image that the racists and anti-Israel demagogues are determined to disseminate.

In the meantime, Islamism is advancing in leaps and bounds. At the same time as Carl Bildt uses the media to report what he does not see, Robert Serry is ignored by the media for what he does see and Gunilla Carlsson is given a media megaphone to voice what the Swedish public want to hear in this election year, Islamist terror organizations are growing in strength not just in the Middle East but elsewhere. Martin Bright reports that Britain is developing into a crucial hub for Hamas, the Gaza regime that is regarded as a terrorist organisation by the UN, the EU and the Quartet. His article makes frightening reading.

Back in Sweden it’s business as usual. Swedish extreme-left publication Flamman has an interview (in Swedish) with Anna Wester, public relations contact for the Palestinian Groups in Sweden (PGS), in which she says that should the extreme-left coalition of communists, social democrats and environmental crusaders win the national elections in Sweden this September, they will “recall Sweden’s military attaché from Israel and all weapons trade with Israel will be stopped”. This includes banning the use of unmanned Israeli-made drones to protect the lives of Swedish soldiers fighting Taliban terrorists in Afghanistan. The Israeli drones have proven their superiority in protecting Swedish soldiers on dangerous missions deep in Afghanistan, but the red-green coalition, should it come into power, would prefer to see dead Swedish soldiers rather than Swedish soldiers owing their lives to Israeli technology. By way of reference, during the World War Two – during which Sweden remained neutral while selling high-grade iron ore to Nazi Germany – sedition against one’s own country’s armed forces was a treasonable offence. The coalition of Sweden's extremist reds and greens must be reading a different rule-book.

Flamman also knows how to up the ante. In an article reminiscent of Sweden’s infamous Aftonbladet allegations (unfounded and later withdrawn) that Israel systematically murders Palestinian Arabs to harvest their organs, the newspaper insinuates in a recent Swedish-language article that there may have been mass rapes of women in Gaza (the insinuation being that the rapes were carried out by Israeli soldiers) for the simple reason that in conflicts in other parts of the world, such abominable acts have indeed taken place. Not even Hamas allege any such thing, but the left-wing Swedish paper has its own dirty war to fight against the Jewish state. Jews are guilty by virtue of someone else's crime on a totally different continent. Sweden's communists go from strength to strength.

Meantime the increasingly open red-green-brown anti-Semitism continues to stain Sweden’s third-largest city, Malmö. Some Swedish writers such as Per Gudmundson, Gulan Avci, Mathias Sundin and Dilsa Demirbag-Sten (articles in Swedish) have been very quick to train the spotlight on this disease.

The strange thing is that when it comes to anti-Semitic attacks on the Jewish state by Swedish politicians, many bloggers wrote already a year ago about communist party (nowadays rebranded Left Party) leader Lars Ohly sporting a keffiyeh in which the whole of Israel has been erased and replaced by an Islamist Palestine. Back then, the Swedish media ignored the episode and the evidence in the blogosphere. This year, however, is election year, so suddenly last year’s blog news has suddenly made it (article in Swedish) into the mainstream traditional media.

Better late than never, of course. But why so late?

One fine day it’s going to be way too late. The victims have already been marked – and not just in Sweden.

It’s a strange world – deafening silence on moral issues, but deafening cacophony on non-issues. In the category of cacophony we find the Middle East’s most underrated stand-up comedian, Libya’s Moammar Gaddafi, who is actively whipping up the Arab world into a jihadi frenzy against Switzerland.

You read right – Switzerland!

And while Libya is wowing the Arab masses against Europe, Iran is meticulously and methodically pursuing its plan for global jihad on a scale never before imagined. Read here what Reuters writes about Iran’s plans to force the world to its knees. Iran has its sights set not on the USA or Israel but the world, first stop Europe. Ignore the Reuters report at your peril.

The Palestinians want neither Partnership nor Peace

Israel has a partner for peace in the Palestinian Authority (PA).

That’s why a police officer belonging to the PA yesterday murdered an Israeli sitting in his vehicle at the traffic lights by stabbing him in the chest with a knife.

The PA terrorist, whose salary is paid by the EU, whose freedom of movement is protected by the UN, whose weapons are paid for by the Arab states and whose training is provided by the US, was quickly apprehended by a nearby civilian security guard who stopped the fleeing fugitive by bumping into him with his car, stunning the murderer sufficiently to give the guard time to hold him until security personnel arrived and arrested him. The terrorist suffered some bruising in his fall to the ground.

We’re waiting now for the UN Security Council to debate the issue of unlawful use of motorized vehicles by the Zionist State, and for the Arab world to propose a motion to boycott any company and country that sells motor vehicles to Israel.

Don’t laugh at the absurdity of such blatant one-sidedness – it’ll doubtless happen.

In fact, such one-sidedness is occurring right now. There is often serious discussion about the genocide in which 6 million Jews were slaughtered in the Holocaust just a few decades ago. The world promised solemnly “Never again”.

But as Professor Alan Dershowitz underscores in this persuasive video clip, at least another 6 million innocent civilians have been slaughtered in various genocides since that horrific period, almost exclusively in conflicts involving Muslim aggression, usually Muslim on Muslim aggression – and solely because the Arab world has succeeded in drawing our attention away from these horrors by focusing solely on demonizing Israel in the public arena.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W_A9ILHvrI

The UN has been hijacked, the media have been hijacked, our minds have been hijacked, our aircraft have been hijacked.

And the slaughter continues.

Never again? It’s happening every day.

In the meantime, we turn a blind eye, focusing on how best to penalize the world’s automobile manufacturers for supplying family cars to Jews who might use them to apprehend murderers.

Meantime, here’s some more encouraging news, this time from Israel’s southern border with Gaza. Hamas, Israel’s third Palestinian Arab partners for peace in addition to Jordan and the Palestinian Authority, are not content with engaging in human trafficking on a small scale. Kidnapping and illegally incarcerating Israeli teenager Gilad Schalit for more than three years is not enough, the Islamist regime wishes to replicate the success of this heroic mission by kidnapping more Jews for the honourable Islamist trade in human flesh.

This comes just a few days after the Egyptian Press Syndicate suspended an Egyptian journalist for the crime of speaking to Jews in Israel. The journalist, Mr Hussain Serag, felt that in order to write about Israel it would not be a bad idea to speak to a few Israelis by way of research so he would know what he was writing about. The Egyptian Press Syndicate, however, took a different view, preferring its members to write only about things of which they know nothing.

Makes perfect sense. In Egypt.

Jordan, meantime, is busy withdrawing Jordanian citizenship from thousands of Palestinian Arabs. 70 percent of Jordan’s population consists of Palestinian Arabs, making this country rightfully theirs. The Jordanian monarch’s grandfather ascended to the throne after being transplanted by the British from the sands of Arabia and installed as king over 80 percent of Mandate Palestine, in an artificially created country known as Transjordan, today Jordan.

Now Jordan wants to withdraw citizenship from the people who make up 70 percent of its population. Even the Palestinian Authority is critical of the move, which contradicts their fundamental human rights. However, seeing as the target of their criticism is Muslim, the Palestinian Arabs are very moderate in their choice of words. Just wonder what the wording would be like if Israel floated the idea of withdrawing citizenship from the 20 percent of its population that consists of Arab Muslims and Christians. An absurd idea in the Jewish state, of course, but apparently nothing is too absurd in the Arab world.

Still, don’t hold your breath waiting for this travesty of human rights abuse to be tabled for discussion at the UN, because that would require Arab acquiescence to such a debate. That won’t happen because the world’s 23 Arab states are way too busy vilifying the world’s sole Jewish state and are probably even now looking for ways to prevent the export of automobiles to the Zionist entity.

Israel is truly spoiled in its array of partners for peace.

Interesting link:
CAMERA writes about how Time Magazine dutifully plays its part in vilification of the Jewish state. In this article, the once-reputable publication does not float the idea of boycotting the export of automobiles to Israel - that will possibly come later - but instead demonises the Jewish state for its archaeological digs. Go figure.

Boycott the Jews. In Sweden.

When blood-libels about organ-harvesting don’t work, it’s time to dust off that other weapon that has served racists so well for centuries: the boycott.

Not just any boycott.

A boycott solely against people of one single faith.

People who refuse to betray their own country.

And not just any people either. Academics. The leading thinkers of any democratic society, the progressives who embrace free thought as part and parcel of their pursuit of expertise.

No, we’re not talking about Egypt, whose Muslim majority routinely violate the human rights of the country’s 3 million Coptic Christians.

Neither are we talking about the Shia Muslims of Iraq who slaughter the Sunni Muslims of Iraq in the name of Islam. And vice versa.

Nor are we talking about the Muslim Palestinian Authority in the West Bank (the Jewish provinces of Judea and Samaria where the Palestinian Arabs want to create a second Palestinian state alongside Jordan). In the West Bank, Christian Arabs living in the cradle of Christianity are so relentlessly pursued by their Muslim neighbours that their population in Bethlehem has dwindled to one-third its size in just one generation.

And of course we are not talking about the Gaza Strip, where ethnic cleansing got a head start with the removal of every single Jew, dead and alive, before the territory was handed over to the Gazans as a first step in the establishment of peace and a new nation. What the Muslim-majority Gazans did instead was to turn on the Christian minority, which has since been decimated.

When it comes to use of the boycott as a weapon against people of a single faith, we are, in fact, talking not about any of the above, but about Sweden.

KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, is organizing a “seminar to discuss the case for boycotting Israel”. Presenting the case for a boycott will be such leading lights of democracy and fidelity as Dror Feiler, a communist who renounced his Israeli citizenship and now campaigns in Sweden on behalf of terrorist organizations such as Hamas. He is regarded in many circles as a traitor. He is also President of European Jews for a Just Peace, an organization numbering almost a hundred people. He does not represent more than a handful of Jews in Sweden but is given widespread coverage by a media enchanted with the Palestinian narrative and deaf to any other.

At the KTH event, Associate Prof Jan-Erik Gustafsson will “report about the Birzeit group for international academic boycott”.

So it’s going to be a balanced, fair and above all representative exchange of views, then.

Interestingly, not a word is mentioned by these champions of human rights on the subject of China, which has occupied and annexed Tibet these past fifty years. Or Turkey, which committed unspeakable atrocities against the Armenians and still occupies Armenia. Neither is Russia mentioned, despite its continued occupation of Chechnya. The Kurds still do not have a country of their own and have been hounded over the centuries – yet another subject that KTH chooses not to highlight.

And that’s before we even mention that other paragon of democracy and enlightenment, Iran, which continues to trumpet its determination to erase Israel from the map and is pursuing the development of nuclear technology for that purpose.

The boycott supporters at KTH prefer not to delve into the legion human rights abuses occurring every day in the Palestinian territories – honour killings, systematized rapes of Christian women, the illegal incarceration of the one sole Jew still (hopefully) alive in Gaza – Gilad Schalit who was kidnapped from sovereign Israel three years ago and still held without access to the Red Cross, his family, legal representation (not that he is accused of anything apart from Judaism, a crime in Gaza), the summary executions of political opponents. None of this matters.

There is a considerable risk to constantly crying “anti-Semitism” every time something of a tacit anti-Semitic nature takes place. The term and its meaning risk being diluted.

There is however an even greater risk to ignoring anti-Semitic attacks when they occur in countries that are ostensibly democracies. Because it sets society on the slippery path to indifference. And we know where that leads. Ask the people of Cambodia, Darfur, Bosnia, Tibet, Armenia, Kurdistan. And the decimated Jews of Europe.

Interestingly enough, one of the participants at the KTH seminar is the Egyptian propaganda ministry. That may of course explain the utter silence on the plight of Egypt’s Coptic Christians.

It also raises interesting questions about how one of Sweden’s foremost educational establishments has been infiltrated by a foreign governmental agency with a murky agenda.

For an insight into how Egypt is perceived today, read this article by former Israeli ambassador to Egypt Mr Zvi Mazel.

And for an insight into how Sweden is perceived today, read this interview by Dr Manfred Gerstenfeld.

With Egyptian state infiltration into Swedish academia, Swedish state funding of various anti-Israel NGOs, and the total infiltration of UNRWA by various Palestinian Arab terrorist and criminal gangs, it is time to step back and ponder where we are headed in the Middle East.

Because constellations such as the Sweden/Egypt/Hamas/media/academia axis seem to be working cohesively outside the established policy structures.

The lack of transparency is worrying. Like now at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, which demands that Jewish Israeli academics betray their country if they wish to be treated as equals.

It’s an echo of what Ilmar Reepalu, the mayor of Malmö in southern Sweden said recently: that only Swedish Jews who renounced all affiliations with Israel could reasonably be expected to live in peace and security in Sweden.

He made no corresponding demand on Swedish Muslims.

Malmö mayor Ilmar Reepalu may well be an honorary member of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

They certainly speak and act in sync.

Everyone's a winner.

FRIGIVEN !!!

Totalt tyst i omvärlden.

I utbyte fick Hamas 20 dömda terrorister frigivna ur israeliska fängelser.

Ja, just du.

The dangers of letting the lunatics run the asylum

A professional in the foreign ministry.

In Spain.

While it’s still amateur hour in Sweden.

"The foreign minister, while maintaining the most absolute respect for freedom of expression, regrets that space was given to a historian who denies one of the biggest tragedies for humanity in modern history … These types of statements deeply hurt the Jewish people."

That’s how a professional – and a humane individual – gets the job done at the foreign ministry. The above statement is from a spokesman for Spanish foreign minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, who responded to the publication in Spanish newspaper El Mundo of anti-Semitic ramblings by notorious Holocaust denier David Irving.

Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt, meantime, is sticking to his guns and maintaining that he cannot comment on an anti-Semitic article by Swedish far-Left tabloid Aftonbladet which accused Israelis and Jews of indulging in systematic organ trafficking.

Two foreign ministers in two European countries. And two so very different responses to the same disease. The Spaniard correctly diagnoses the disease – always a good start to treating it. The Swede doesn’t even want to talk about it. Not much chance of a cure, then.

And the controversy continues. After insulting Israel by withdrawing the Swedish ambassador’s acknowledgement of Israel’s hurt feelings, and then compounding the insult by claiming Swedish law prevents him from commenting on the article (it doesn’t – according to the Swedish Chancellor of Justice), Carl Bildt’s upcoming visit to Israel has now been cancelled. Sweden currently holds the rotating EU presidency so this is a major blow to Bildt’s and Sweden’s credibility in the international arena.

Perhaps Israel is being unfairly harsh on Sweden. After all, Bildt is consistent: he has not said a word about kidnapped Israeli Gilad Schalit, even though Sweden, the second-largest per capita contributor to Palestinian Arab welfare, has it within its power to condition its continued massive injection of cash into Gaza on the release of Schalit – the only Jew in a Gaza Strip that has otherwise been ethnically cleansed of all other Jews.

Bildt has consistently stayed silent on the issue of the Jewish hostage in the Middle. He’s consistently paid out a hundred million dollars a year from Swedish state coffers to the people who indulge in this human trafficking. Now he’s being consistently silent on the issue of anti-Semitic articles in a newspaper in his own country.

Carl Bildt is nothing if not consistent. The strong silent Swede. Except, that is, in his criticism of Israel, when he exhibits a rather more talkative side to his character. In January this year he levelled bitter criticism of Israel’s military action in the Gaza Strip, but refrained from commenting on the seven years of bombardment by 10,000 missiles from Gaza on Israeli homes that preceded that action.

Selective silence. It seems to be a peculiarly Swedish malady.

Luckily for us, the Spaniards know a thing or two about democratic process, freedom of expression, historical precedent and simple humanity.

Miguel Moratinos should consider taking some time out from his duties as foreign minister to teach his Swedish colleague the basics of the job.

Carl Bildt has a lot to learn.

Hamas and Aftonbladet: a marriage made in hell

Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet writes an inflammatory anti-Semitic article that even its own editors admit is so lacking in factual basis it cannot be printed in the news pages. It is relegated to the “Culture” section.

Which says a whole lot about the Swedish perception of culture in a climate of anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism nurtured by large swathes of the media. The Church of Sweden and its various satellite organisations play at least as significant a role in this incitement as the media do.

Meantime, Hamas in Gaza refuse to educate children on the subject of the Holocaust as part of the curriculum.

Schoolbooks – indeed the entire educational establishment just like virtually all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip and West Bank – are financed by the West. Sweden is the world’s biggest per capita donor to Palestinian Arab welfare. Swedish taxpayers’ money is being used in order to shield Palestinian Arabs from an aspect of world history that is taught in every other part of the world. Hamas refers to the Holocaust, in which six million Jews were slaughtered as part of a widespread racist ideology, as “a lie invented by the Zionists”. It is this same Hamas that Sweden and the rest of the West continue to subsidise. UNRWA, which is charged with ensuring that UN funds are properly used in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, said simply that “the Holocaust was not currently on its curriculum” in the Hamas-controlled territory.

It is this same Hamas that more than three years ago kidnapped a young Jew from Israel, Gilad Schalit, and has since held him without access to the Red Cross, the UN, legal representation, medical attention, or visits from or indeed correspondence with his family. Schalit is being used as a pawn in the medieval pastime of human trafficking. It is a practice that is illegal in the civilized world but is deemed a legitimate Palestinian government tactic. It must be legitimate because the world at large continues to turn a blind eye – it has never once been on the EU, UN or US agenda over the past three years.

Sweden and the rest of the western world accordingly continue to pump billions into the Palestinian economy, while the Palestinians continue to enshrine barbaric practices into governmental policy.

Not everyone in the West is blind, however. Italy is not afraid of condemning Aftonbladet’s anti-Semitism, calling its article “lying and hurtful” and an act “of blatant anti-Semitism”. Israeli officials have repeatedly maintained that they do not either want or expect the Swedish government to interfere with freedom of expression or freedom of the press, but insist that the Swedish government needs to make its response to the anti-Semitic claims clear. Responding is not the same as curbing freedom of speech. The absence of a response, on the other hand, could be and often is seen as tacit support. Hamas certainly seem to see it that way.

The Italian Foreign Minister had no difficulty in formulating a response. FM Franco Frattini went so far as to say: “There are limits to freedom of the press that stem from respect for the truth and the duty of every journalist to prove his claims.” Italy seems, unfortunately, to be the sole voice in the wilderness.

Because that wilderness echoes to the sound of official Sweden’s silence.

The bewildering thing about Sweden’s silence is that it is not consistent. According to website WWRN (WorldWide Religious News), Sweden’s Prime Minister did actually express regret over the nature of the offence caused.

Prime Minister Fredirk (sic) Reinfeldt said after Tuesday's talks … “I regret if people have taken offense or feel offended”.’

There’s one problem, however. I’ve been a bit economical with the truth, because the above quote, while totally accurate in what I’ve included, is interesting for what I’ve omitted; a few key phrases. The full quote as taken from the WWRN website actually reads:

Prime Minister Fredirk Reinfeldt said after Tuesday's talks with Swedish Muslim organizations, “I regret if people have taken offense or feel offended” by the cartoon in a local newspaper, Nerikes Allehanda.’

The reference is to the offence felt by Muslims a couple of years ago over insults perceived by Muslims and Islam worldwide in the wake of cartoons published depicting the prophet Mohammed in an unfavourable light.

The Swedish Prime Minister and his government just couldn’t square it with Sweden’s much-vaunted freedom of the press and freedom of expression to voice equal regret over insults perceived by Jews and Israelis worldwide in the wake of unsubstantiated and blatantly anti-Semitic allegations published in Aftonbladet.

Neither PM Reinfeldt nor anyone in his government is anti-Semitic. They are pillars of democratic decency.

But the juxtaposition between words on the one hand and silence on the other nurtures anti-Semitism.

And it is this that is so problematic with official Sweden’s silence today.

In Sweden, silence is golden – literally

Just ask Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt

The gold is in the form of Swedish tax revenues paid dutifully by hard-working Swedes lucky enough to still have a job.

That gold is used by the Swedish government. Not for the Swedish population but for the Palestinian Arab population. 700 million kronor per annum, and increasing year on year. As can be seen from the pictures in the following articles, the Gaza Palestinians don’t exactly seem to be in any danger of under-nourishment…

Silence is golden according to Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, the government official who insists his country’s ambassador to Israel must refrain from expressing an opinion on virulent anti-Semitic accusations in Swedish left-wing tabloid Aftonbladet. Accusations intended as a blood-libel against all Jews and Israelis everywhere.

Silence is so golden according to Carl Bildt that despite the millions that he takes from Swedish citizens to give to Palestinian Arabs, he deliberately chooses not to condition these payments on the Palestinians’ release of the only Jew in the otherwise ethnically cleansed Gaza Strip: the young Gilad Schalit who was kidnapped by Palestinian government party Hamas 1200 days ago and since then not allowed contacts with his family, legal representation or the Red Cross – or indeed even granted the privilege of seeing sunlight.

Carl Bildt firmly believes in silence. He maintains total silence on the issue of the Jewish hostage Gilad Schalit, while at the same time plundering Swedish state coffers to support the Palestinians in Gaza.

Carl Bildt firmly believes in silence. He insists that his ambassadors remain silent in the face of raw anti-Semitism.

Carl Bildt firmly believes in silence. That’s why there is no Foreign Ministry investigation into the link between the increasing Swedish funding of Palestinian Arabs and the corresponding increase in Palestinian Arabs disappearing from life-supporting dialysis sessions, only for them to turn up instead abroad where they purchase organs from cash-strapped donors and have them transplanted into their own bodies before returning to the West Bank.

Is the Swedish Foreign Minister thus suffering from an inability to see, as well as his documented inability to speak, hear, think and do elementary maths?

Ultimately we have to remember what the whole fuss is about: Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet published a story about organ trafficking that involved people in the US – but when it turned out that one of the people involved was a Jew, angled the entire article as a blatant anti-Semitic tirade.

In Sweden, anti-Semitism is not punishable. Nor is crass stupidity. Neither is gross incompetence in public office. But an ambassador who expresses her honest dismay over anti-Semitism while at the same time upholding Sweden’s proud tradition of freedom of expression and freedom of the press, is censured by the Swedish Foreign Minister. The same Foreign Minister who declines to say a word about the kidnapped Jew Gilad Schalit, held by Muslim Arab human traffickers in the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s Ambassador to Sweden Benny Dagan gave a resounding interview in Swedish daily Sydsvenskan, summarising his nation’s and his people’s view of the situation.

Rampant Swedish media distortion and the tacit and blatant anti-Semitism expressed in various Swedish governmental and quasi-governmental organisations can be charted with the utmost clarity in a report by NGO Monitor.

The results of media distortion and constant demonising of Jews and Israelis are felt in Sweden all the time – most recently yesterday in a soccer match involving Jewish youth club IF Hakoah, in which spectators raced onto the pitch during and after the match to beat up the Hakoah players for the crime of being Jewish. One problem, however: at this particular match, none of the Hakoah players were actually Jewish. Not that it mattered in a climate of hate fuelled by large swathes of the Swedish media and government silence.

So back to the infamous article in populist left-wing tabloid Aftonbladet. The article’s author Donald Boström freely admits that he has absolutely no evidence of any of his allegations but says it is up to Jews and Israelis to prove themselves innocent. An interesting twist – Jews are guilty until they prove themselves innocent. Now where have we heard that before? Democracy doesn't appear to be Boström’s or Aftonbladet’s strongest suit.

Much of the material in Boström’s article came from a book he published in 2001, “Inshallah” (the title is something of a giveaway, you can probably already see where this is going), which was jointly financed by the Swedish Foreign Ministry and various other government-backed organisations. Here in fact is what Boström writes in the acknowledgements section (comments in brackets are my explanations):

"Thanks to Diakonia [90% government-financed Christian aid organisation], Forum Syd [government-financed aid organisation], Graphics Industry Union, Stockholm Graphic Workers' Union [part of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation, co-owner of Aftonbladet], the Swedish Christian Study Center, the Brotherhood Movement [Christian branch of the Social Democratic Party], the Swedish Palestinian Solidarity Movement [partly government-financed], Trade union TCO and the Swedish Foreign Ministry for their financial donations."

It appears Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has every reason to be tight-lipped. There’s too much at stake if people start talking, writing or asking questions. Swedes might start demanding some of their tax money be spent on their welfare rather than on organ-harvesting for Palestinian Arabs.

And Israel, which sees Sweden spending huge amounts on Palestinians involved in organ trafficking and human trafficking, might start considering legal action.

That would put Sweden’s selective silence in jeopardy.

Röda Korset arbetar ostört i Gazaremsan.

Visiting Gilad Schalit is your duty. Do it today.

Visiting Gilad Schalit is your duty. Do it today.

Visiting Gilad Schalit is your duty. Do it today.
